Black P Stones (Jungles)

The Black P. Stones, better known on the Westside as the Jungles, trace their roots back to Chicago. The original Blackstone Rangers were formed in the late 1950s on Chicago's South Side before evolving into the Black P. Stone Nation. In 1969, a former Chicago Stone known as T. Rodgers brought the organization to Los Angeles, planting the foundation for what would eventually become one of the most respected and feared Blood sets in the city.
Over time, the Los Angeles branch developed its own identity. The gang split into two major sections: the City Stones, based around the Mid-City and West Adams area, and the Jungle Stones, based in Baldwin Village. While both carried the Black P. Stone name, the Jungles became the more widely recognized faction due to their size, reputation, and influence throughout South Central and the Westside.

The Jungles claim Baldwin Village, a neighborhood located between Crenshaw Boulevard and La Brea Avenue. Long before outsiders knew it as Baldwin Village, locals simply called it "the Jungles". The nickname came from the dense apartment complexes, winding walkways, and maze-like layout that made the area difficult for outsiders and even police to navigate.
The set maintained close relationships with numerous Blood gangs while remaining involved in long-standing conflicts with several Crip neighborhoods. Rivalries with gangs such as the Rollin' 30s Harlem Crips and Rollin' 40s Neighborhood Crips had already become part of the street landscape by the early 1990s.
Throughout the late 1980s and early 1990s, the Jungles developed a reputation for being highly organized and deeply connected within Baldwin Village. The neighborhood itself became known as a stronghold where generations of families lived alongside active gang members. For many young people growing up in the area, affiliation with the Stones was less about joining and more about being raised within the environment.
By 1993, the Black P. Stones Jungles stood as one of the most prominent Blood sets in Los Angeles. Their territory remained firmly established in Baldwin Village, their rivalries were well known throughout the city, and their Chicago heritage continued to set them apart from nearly every other Blood gang operating in Southern California.
