HISTORY
Grape Street traces its roots back to the Jordan Downs Housing Projects in Watts, where local residents and neighborhood youth grew up together on the same blocks. Long before it became known as a recognized street set, Grape Street was simply a tight-knit group of individuals representing the area they called home.
As the years passed and different neighborhoods throughout Los Angeles began establishing their own identities, the residents of Grape Street developed a stronger sense of unity and pride in their section of Watts. The name became tied to the streets, apartments, and people that made up the Jordan Downs community.
Through loyalty to the neighborhood and strong ties within the projects, Grape Street grew into one of the most recognized sets to come out of Watts. The name continues to represent the history, culture, and legacy of the Jordan Downs area and those who were raised there.

HISTORY OF JORDAN DOWNS HOUSING PROJECTS
The Jordan Downs Housing Projects are located in Watts, Los Angeles, California, and were originally developed as a public housing community to provide affordable homes for working-class families in the area. Over time, Jordan Downs became one of the most well-known housing developments in South Central Los Angeles.
Throughout the decades, multiple generations grew up within the project buildings, creating a tightly connected community shaped by shared experiences, challenges, and neighborhood life. The environment played a major role in shaping the identity of the area and the people who lived there.
Like many large housing projects in Los Angeles, Jordan Downs went through periods of economic hardship, redevelopment efforts, and social change. Despite this, it remained a central part of Watts and continued to be home to long-standing residents and families.
Today, Jordan Downs is widely recognized not only for its history as a housing project, but also for its cultural significance within Watts and the broader Los Angeles community.
